*Disclaimer: Kratom, due to its opioid-like action, has been used for treatment of pain and opioid withdrawal. However, Kratom appears to have properties that expose users to the risks of addiction, abuse, and dependence. Kava has recently been looked at as a possible treatment for conditions such as anxiety, chronic stress, and insomnia. While kava is generally considered to be non-addictive, there are multiple safety concerns regarding kava use, including liver failure and cirrhosis of the liver. Kava can be habit forming and lead to the development of a tolerance. Caffeine is a central nervous system stimulant that has the ability to enhance concentration, increase metabolism, and boost mood. However, caffeine has addictive properties that may lead to physical dependence.
